Wings create downforce for high-performance vehicles, while spoilers prevent or reduce lift. In short, spoilers disrupt the aerodynamic motion and switch the high-pressure and low-pressure zones. They eliminate the high pressure that creates lift and moves it away from the car. They provide stabilization and increase drag slightly.
